David Ball Group (DBG) is very proud to announce that it has won two of this year’s Wildlife Trust BCN ‘Gardening at Work’ Awards – The Best Newcomer Wildlife Garden and The Best Wildlife Sighting. DBG is a manufacturer of innovative materials for the construction industry, with market-leading brands such as PUDLO waterproof concrete and the revolutionary CEMFREE zero-cement concrete. Having been a local employer and manufacturer in Cambridge for almost 50 years, DBG has embedded itself into the local community and is keen to show that industry and nature can coexist together successfully.
Quality Manager Rowan Swanser has been implementing the wildlife plan at DBG’s Bourn HQ and has relished the task of overseeing the planting of a mini orchard and a wildflower garden as well as the installation of bug hotels, bat boxes, bird boxes and wildlife cameras around the site. Since starting this work, more and more wildlife has been spotted onsite and it’s clear that the scheme has made a positive difference for the local wildlife around DBG’s workplace.
After hearing DBG had won, Rowan said, “We are absolutely delighted to have won these two awards. Since we have moved to Bourn we have put various wildlife initiatives in place, from planting the fruit orchard to installing the wildlife cameras. Winning these awards is a real credit to our organisation and all of the hard work that has been put into making this happen. Importantly, it also highlights DBG’s commitment to sustainability within our business, products and surroundings.”
DBG is a bronze member of Wildlife Trust BCN which looks after 126 nature reserves across Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Northamptonshire. These reserves support a vast array of animals and plants and Wildlife Trust BCN aims to educate local residents and businesses about the various species in their area and how they can get involved with helping them to thrive.
